I upgraded to 11.11.4 when not connected to my car, tested the interface,and saved the configuration (no problem here). It is strange that it is detected correctly when not connected to 12V but as soon as 12v is applied interface is not found by VCDS. On the other hand, when connected only to laptop interface is found with status: Not plugged into Car. Click to expand.The update worked flawlessly on my cable, just as Jef described. After running software and trying test, while connected to car, it says: port ok, interface not found. If youre not ready for an interface upgrade, youll have to use VCDS-Lite instead.
